These hydrophones, (shown in front of the catamaran), are designed to be towed from a moving vessel and are used for the detection of seismic signals reflected from the bottom and sub-bottom strata. The streamers consists of individual hydrophone elements located within neutrally buoyant kerosene filled tubing. The tubing is specially designed to minimise turbulent noise through the water.
The Edgetech 265 uses eight hydrophone elements evenly spaced in a 3.8 meter active section with a current summing amplifier located just forward of the active section.
Both of the above units are used with surface tow boomer or sparker sub-bottom profiling systems.
